The purpose of GP Speciality Training is to give you every opportunity to gain the broad experience you will need to be a competent General Practitioner. Your learning will be underpinned by the GP curriculum and it is up to you to make yourself familiar with areas of the curriculum particularly applicable to your current post. If you have any concerns or queries the Programme Directors will be happy to give you some guidance and advice.

Bromley GP Training Programme is a 12 placements entry scheme.  This means that there are 12 places available in its training programmes for ST 1.  The 12 placements are divided into 4 separate programmes with each programme having 3 placements.  To view the programmes please click on the link on the left.

The programmes have a mixture of traditional jobs one would expect to see on a General Practice training scheme as well as some new and innovative jobs that are particularly relevant to General Practice.  18 months of the 3 year programme is spent in General Practice. During ST1 and ST2 each trainee will do a 4 month GP post and a 4 month ITP post which has 2 months of General practice, this along with the 12 months of GP in ST3 year makes up the 18 months.

All of the placements in the ST1 and ST2 years are four month posts thus allowing for 3 relevant specialities to be experienced during each year.

The hospital posts generally include a protected teaching session each week run by the hospital directorates.  In addition to this, most of the hospital departments try and release you to attend the GPTP Half Day Release on Wednesday afternoons from 2 – 5pm at the Education Centre at the Princess Royal University Hospital.
