Description of Post |
|
This post is split between Community Paediatrics, based at the Phoenix Child Resource Centre and General Practice. You will also gain some out of hours experience during the 4 months (4 sessions in total).

You will have an induction into General Practice and start gaining the skills necessary to successfully complete your speciality training programme.
In Community Paediatrics you will learn about child development, immunisation, special needs and disabilities and the basic principals of child protection. You will be well supported by a trainer in General Practice and your clinical supervisor at the Phoenix Centre. |
| Duties and Responsibilities |

You will have an induction into General Practice and start gaining the skills necessary to successfully complete your speciality training programme.
In Community Paediatrics you will learn about child development, immunisation, special needs and disabilities and the basic principals of child protection. You will be well supported by a trainer in General Practice and your clinical supervisor at the Phoenix Centre. |

Reflections of previous post holders |
|
In Community Pediatrics I leant: 1. To understand and recognise the children with special needs who are managed in the community. Basic understanding of common presentations such as Cerebral Palsy, Autism , ADHD. 2. Ability to perform a developmental assessment using the tools available such as the Conners scale 3. Various teams ( early support team, portage ) that are involved in providing support to both parents and the child. 4. Awareness of the special schools and the opportunities offered. 5. Conducted 6-8 week baby checks at various CHC. 6. Attended the special immunisation clinic conducted by Dr Kamalanathan which unfortunately is closing down because of lack of funds. 7. An opportunity to perform a very interesting audit. 8. Sat in for 2 child protection cases with the consultant and attended a course on it. 9. Opportunity to attends special clinics such as Constipation, enuresis, audiology etc. |
