At the end of the summer term, we hold a Presentation Evening and invite the Consultants and GP Trainers to join us for a meal.  This is followed by 5 minute presentations from each of the GP Trainees and the ST 1 and 2 doctors on a relevant topic of your choice.

The evening is usually held at the Education centre and you are provided with a meal.  This is an essential part of your training and all doctors involved with the GPTP are expected to attend.

Text Box:  The 2007 presentation evening was well attended by GPRs, SHOs, trainers and Hospital consultants (Drs Abdulla, Alcoreza, Allen, Kamal and Rhodes).  Amongst the other guests were John Spicer, Associate Dean for our patch and Paris ex GPR to Dr David Masters.  The evening went pretty well considering we only had 2.5 hours to get through everything.  The evening started with drinks at 6:30pm and an informal social gathering.  Dinner was served at 7:00pm and David had us fed and into the auditorium by 7:35pm.  David's brief opening presentation for the evening was interesting.  He described the criteria for marking the presentations and introduced Mr Paul Allen, Dr James Heathcote and Paris who were on the marking panel.  The criteria were represented by the acronym CODE (Clarity, Originality, Diligence and enthusiasm).  The presentations were excellent, all the presenter put in a great deal of effort into their work and I think we all learnt a lot.  The presentations were extremely varied from Alka's factual presentation of the NICE guidelines on childhood fever to Metale's reflection on work she had done.
Once the presentations started David and his 'red apple' made sure that each presenter had 5 minutes and 30 seconds.  It was somewhat humorous when Kirsty in her talk on nocturnal enuresis coincided her discussion on alarms with David's red apple ringing to give her the 5 minute warning.  It was also no coincidence that Farah's talk on C.diff followed Arup's talk on Probiotics - spooky or just diligent organisation, you decide!
Following the presentations the scores awarded by each panellist were very efficiently totted up by Nikki.  John Spicer then gave out the prizes with the overall winner being Amrit.  Many congratulations to him, Manjeet, Prema, Vimple and Patsy.
John Spicer was impressed with the evening commending the GPTP on it energy, originality and forward thinking.
The PD's would like to thank everyone for all their effort on the evening specially Grace for organising the dinner and canapés.
