WHAT DO YOU THINK GPs NEED TO KNOW ABOUT LEARNING DISABILITES?? Definitions; issues assoc with it i.e. consent and capacity; ways to look at people with LD. Different severities of LD, continuity of care; ethics. Diagnosis; MDT approach; problems and difficulties encountered .What is it? How can it present?; ethical issues. Think about the psycho-social issues; atypical presentation of discussion and consent/capacity. Respect confidentiality; good communication in a variety o f modes; be patient. How to re3cognise LD; things to think about in helping gthe3se individuals access the services to surgery; difference between LD and learning difficulties. Increased understanding of needs; high prevalence and confidentiality/respect issues. The definition; how it impacts on patients physically; social and psychologically7; how to adapt the clinical consultation to meet the needs of individual patients. Their specific needs; challenges in delivering good quality of care; broad spectrum of the tem LD. |
